Dan H returned over lunch from the dismissal of a lawsuit… I had a nice bask in the sun over part of my lunch break at the local park.

While reading images this afternoon, I had a fond memory of the very first diagnostic image I ever saw- a CXR in my Dad’s office in Terra Linda, CA in about 1969. It’s been 42 years… can’t believe how fast those years melted away.

Lawrence O’Donnell has impressed me on MSNBC with his dedication to calling out racists and other all-too-frequent folks. I think it’s fine that there is an alternative to watching Fox News, where you might be convinced that the President is not only not American but a member of a Feared Faith. If I’m lucky, someday maybe I ‘ll have a chance to share a table with him or with Rachel Maddow… that’s an exciting thought!

>A memorable phone call from Taylor

>Tonight I received a special gift: during a call from Taylor regarding her chest pain today, she made me so happy by telling me how much she missed my being around since working up here… that was pretty wonderful to hear, especially this day.

Relaxing and doing some preps for the rest of the week and the upcoming weekend. Now to have some cheese popcorn and write to Midi…..

Happy Valentine’s Day… somewhat tired after another slog at Sierra Imaging Center. May have lunch this week with Tulare rads; now to relax and catch up on politics, maybe shoot those various snow saws for my workshops.

Weather’s turning toward spring- of course, again I cast my gaze at the Sierra knowing I have no time to get to them…… starting to pare down items to keep/transport to LA.

>Moving gear and supplies back to La Puente over the coming months

>I’ve already been doing this… continue this week with haulbags, food, magazines, books, DVD’s, Ramer ski poles, climbing ropes and some of my camera bags as well as my MKR contract and lease for this apartment. If I end up staying in the Tulare/Visalia area after May, I can always select what to bring back.

This is the first time I’ve had the enjoyment of studying a radiology syllabus online whenever and however I please, with accurated rendition exactly as it was at the meeting… neat! It was so nice not to take (almost any) notes there and have the feeling that I wasn’t missing anything important; and I can refer to sessions I didn’t attend equally well. Another advantage: no extra paper/volumes to store and take up space; and I can always print what I wish for a specific application.

I’m sold.

>The finish of another vacation week, and another rad conference

Back in Visalia after an evening drive, hearing that my mother had a car accident and blacked out at the wheel near the apartment today (but seems all right tonight), Kendell has what sounds like viral gastroenteritis, and I was not able to get to the TCSP meeting re the June auction…. but- it’s very nice to have the LARS conference online and backed up on my 2GB thumb drive; got to talk with Midi twice and got some nice e-mails.. Rick Yen invited me to China for a week this July to shoot and explore the northeast part of the country! And I got Elvis’s phone # and last name: Phan, and met his wife for the first time at the Pasadena show over lunch.

Now I plan to continue moving gear to LA, follow up on job search, go to Thursday VPG meeting, and catch up with Charles this week- maybe heading to the snow some day soon.

Already received e-mail before noon from Dr. Lin re a position starting May PT-> August FT in the San Gabriel Valley. I plan to send my CV this evening.

This is the first time I’ve ever done the SAM’s at a meeting and find that at least they help keep me conscious… beautiful day here in Pasadena, I wish I were photographung or in the mountains! Parking is $9 /day.

Eat lightly for lunch as usual to avoid slumber in the afternoon sessions. I spoke briefly with Bill Hastrup from UCLA med days, who’s been at Fresno /pediatric rad chronically.

Another very warm day here, running errands and then preparing my garage and office for a lot of additional gear to be moved from Visalia in coming weeks. I’m going to try to avoid adding any items for the next several months at least, due to very limited space as well as good practice.

Tomorrow I will attempt to reconnect and network with practices during my job search, at the Pasadena rad meeting- and stay awake long enough to do it.

My preparations for returning to the snow to build shelters are complete.

>Reflections in the water- pondering the legacy of the great mezzo soprano Barbara Smith Conrad, who was threatened with death for wiinning the role of Dido in her first opera at U Texas Austin in 1957 and 52 years later, was honored as a distinguished alumnus and invited to sing at the Texas State Legislature building….

Her story was portrayed in the PBS documentary I just enjoyed, WHEN I RISE. If someone were to ask me to recommend a piece to include as mandatory viewing for the education of those who come after us,this film would be on my short list. With luck, someday I will be able to share it with my own children if all 3 are ever in the same place at once.

Sunny, like early summer in February. Egypt is in chaos. Here, I’m bored enough to stay inside at this screen during the afternoon… partly completed the work to upload my Lightroom Web Gallery to the internet, but no successful actual upload yet. Hopefully Grant can assist sometime soon.

I may try to shoot some more images for my alpine/snow slideshow. Then another evening at the Crypt… but it’s nice to rest, I must say that it’s needed.
